Safeguarding Justice in the Digital Age
In today’s business landscape, online infrastructure is crucial for enterprise functionality. Many
businesses rely on service providers for managing digital assets. Unfortunately, we faced a breach of
trust with our former provider, prompting a legal response to protect our firm’s and clients’ interests.
Our erstwhile service provider executed an unauthorised transfer of ownership of our domain, thereby
acquiring undue control over our email communication channels. This disruptive action not only
impeded professional correspondence but also transgressed established norms of professional
conduct.
In the early months of 2023, we confronted an inability to send or receive emails, despite our
successful migration process. Urgent interdicts were promptly pursued, resulting in obtaining an
interim court order that facilitated the restoration of control over our domain and email infrastructure.
Unfortunately, the imposition of a server-hold status rendered the domain itself temporarily unusable.
An individual, formerly a service provider to HL Legal Inc., is currently misrepresenting themselves as
our Chief Financial Officer. This individual retains control of our initial website but holds no current
affiliation with HL Legal Inc. in any capacity.
Should this individual solicit monies for any legal services, please note that this is in fact fraud and
should be reported to the South African Police Service.
As we navigate the legal landscape to address this breach of trust, we underscore the critical
importance of due diligence when engaging service providers. This incident serves as a stark
reminder of the vulnerabilities that can arise in the digital realm and emphasises the need for a robust
legal framework to protect businesses and individuals. Rest assured, our firm remains committed to
upholding the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality, ensuring the trust our clients
place in us remains unwavering.
